I’m Vannia! Outside of working with my clients I love singing, writing, and painting. Pretty much anything creative. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of California. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science with Emphasis in Clinical Aspects of Cognition from UCSD and received a Master of Social Work from USC.
I have worked and volunteered in mental health and disability fields for years. I even began a nonprofit in 2020 in order to provide resources to those living with mental illness as well as the mental health professionals who care for our communities. You can find more information at www.mentalstatefoundation.org
Thank you for taking time to learn about me and my practice.
As someone living with mental illness myself, know that a more stable life exists. Living with mental illness does not mean your life is over. It does not make you less of a person. It does, however, mean you have to be more intentional with your time and energy to get the most out of life. You don't have to have everything figured out. You just have to learn to navigate these ups and downs.
I can't wait to learn more about you!
Email me at vannia@artistictherapist.com to schedule an initial consultation. I provide an initial consultation (through video call) free of charge to learn about your needs, determine whether your needs are within my scope of expertise, and to allow you to become familiar with my treatment approach. If you and I decide we are a good match, we can move forward and schedule our initial intake.
Please email me at vannia@artistictherapist.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
I accept Aetna, Oxford, United Healthcare, Oscar Health, Blue Shield of California, Cigna and Anthem Blue Cross.

Yes. My services are 100% online and I have been successful in helping many using this method. Our lives can get very busy, whether it's work, classes, family, friends. Working online allows you therapy without the travel time. If you are interested in in-person services, please be aware that it is not available at this time.
EMDR is a powerful tool to work through past traumas and negative experiences that impact you to this day. You may be asked to do eye movements or hand movements to stay rooted in the present while processing the past. It differs from traditional talk therapy in that it is highly structured to stay focused on the root concern. You may find this method helpful if you have had therapy in the past but still find yourself becoming tense, avoiding triggers, or reacting in ways that upset you. This is great for those who feel a disconnect between what the mind knows and what the body feels.
Utilizing the arts helps connect us to the present in a nonthreatening way while processing difficult feelings. Drawing or writing can allow you to be heard when it's too painful to speak out loud. It can give a sense of control and is a great practice in giving up control. We can even use art to ground ourselves toward the end of a particularly heavy session. There are many benefits and you don't have to be "skilled" at art. However, using art in session is not mandatory. This is your session! Just know I am comfortable using this resource with you.
Sometimes you just need someone to hear you out. Sometimes we worry about being a burden on others if we let them in on what we are thinking. Rest assured, you do not have to worry about being a burden. I am exactly where I want to be. This time is your time. There is a huge benefit to having someone in your corner who is not intricately tied into your day-to-day life. Feel free to be free here.
An Evidence Based Practice that helps us understand the interaction between our thoughts, emotions, and actions. It helps us understand unhelpful thinking patterns and avoid spiraling thoughts.
Our lives are not just pre-determined by our DNA. Life experience plays a huge role as well. Negative experiences and trauma can have a big effect on how we see ourselves and our outlook on life. You might avoid situations that remind you of past experiences or find yourself stuck in patterns you have trouble freeing yourself from.
You may be struggling with depression, bipolar disorder, or anxiety. It can be difficult to do things that you used to love or you find yourself getting overwhelmed easily. You may be experiencing panic attacks for seemingly unknown reasons. You might have experienced your mood reaching high highs and low lows. You may have even experienced paranoia or thoughts that others have found strange or bizarre. It can be difficult to feel in control of your life with all this going on.
Sometimes your greatest passion can be the focus of so much pain. We get joy from creating, but also struggle with not feeling good enough. It can be so difficult you might consider giving up on your art altogether. Balancing art for art's sake with trying to hone your craft can feel paralyzing.
